Their hard work paid off with the Novice Girls’ 1st place finish at the Washington Metro Interscholastic Rowing Association (WMIRA) Championship last May. The Boys team also boasted an impressive 2nd place finish in the Cooper Cup Regatta in Philadelphia, PA. Capital Juniors is a rowing program that developed to introduce rowing to DC public and charter school students. The program has expanded to include students in any school—public or private—in DC, Maryland and Virginia whose school does not offer rowing. With Wilson HS being the only public school in the city to offer rowing, Capital Juniors hopes to offer an option for students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to row. During its inaugural year, the program introduced over 35 kids to the sport and fielded a competitive team of 14 rowers. These students were from KIPP College Prep, School Without Walls and Annandale High School.
