bergman-300x199The National Association of Biology Teachers has chosen Walls science teacher Sydney Bergman to receive this year’s Kim Foglia AP Biology Service Award at its national conference in Providence this coming week. Ms. Bergman—herself a Walls alum—is an exemplary biology teacher and the tireless mentor for Walls students who enter their science projects into regional and national competitions. She can be credited in good part for Walls’ long winning streak at the annual DC STEM Fair competition.

The Kim Foglia AP Biology Service Award recognizes an AP biology teacher who “displays a willingness to share materials, serves as a mentor to both students and professional colleagues, creates an innovative and student centered classroom environment, and exemplifies a personal philosophy that encourages professional growth as an AP biology teacher and member of that community.” The award is sponsored by Pearson, the Neil A. Campbell Educational Trust, and NABT, and includes a $1,000 honorarium, a recognition plaque, and one year of complimentary membership to NABT.
