Starting the School Year Smooth and Strong

Posted on: September 21st, 2012 by Jennifer Boulanger

We would like to thank everyone who has made this school year start so well. First, thank you to our guidance counselors, Ms. Iro, Ms. Kapadia and Ms. Makar for the tremendous amount of work that they did planning our Summer Bridge and scheduling students over the summer. The custodial staff headed by Mr. White, have done an outstanding job cleaning and repairing building so it appears new each and every year. Lastly, our administrative team’s office staff lead by Mrs. Jones-Hinnant made sure that everything was mailed out to parents and students in a timely manner and responded to all the questions from parents in a friendly, professional manner.

This year we are looking forward to having many students traveling abroad with trips scheduled to travel to; Senegal, India, Costa Rica, Germany and England. These trips along with the many foreign exchange students enrolled this year at SWW, certainly helps to prepare our students to be global citizens able to get along with people from all over the world.

The Home & School Association’s membership/fundraising drive has helped to ensure that many activities, professional develop and needed resources are available for our students and teachers. The spirit of the SWW “family” permeates through all of their activities. Please make sure to mark October 13th on your calendar for our annual picnic at Rock Creek Park. The HSA is promoting school spirit this year with sweat shirts, bumper stickers and car magnets for sale. Please come to the picnic ready to purchase one or more of these items! The HSA is the reason that we are so successful in meeting our school’s needs which are not supported via the budget.

Lastly, all teachers are required to use Jupiter grades, purchased by the HSA, to create, maintain and strengthen excellent communication and relationships between home, students, teachers and school. Please make sure that you check it on a regular basis and let us know if you are having any problems with it immediately.

Feel free to contact me with any issues, ideas or questions you may via email or call at 202-645-9690.

Thank YOU!
