New SBOE Student Advisory Committee Mentor Program

DC’s State Board of Education (SBOE) Student Advisory Committee (SAC), chaired by Tallya Rhodes from H.D. Woodson High School (Ward 7) and Tatiana Robinson from Ballou High School (Ward 8), has been meeting monthly since the fall to discuss education priorities and initiatives for District public school students. The committee has now launched a new student mentor program in order to foster student involvement and collaboration. We need your help to spread the word about this exciting new program!  The mentor program created by the SAC aims to help upperclassmen (juniors and seniors) develop connections with underclassmen (freshmen and sophomores). Areas for collaboration will include learning more about the process of applying to college, how to develop connections, and much more.

High School students of all grade levels may apply to participate in this new mentor program by filling out this survey: We kindly ask that you distribute this survey link to all of your students who may be interested in participating in the mentor program. Additionally, the SAC has created the attached flyer. We would love it if each principal could distribute the flyer as well.

The deadline for students to apply is Tuesday, January 23, 2018.
