The School Transit Subsidy Program wants to remind students and parents about Metro’s transition to an entirely paperless farecard program.
- Metro farecard machines stopped selling paper farecards on December 3, 2015.
- Metro will stop selling paper farecards at their sales offices (and in bulk) on December 31, 2015. This includes regular paper farecards and discounted student paper farecards, including the $1.90 two-trip rail pass, the $9.50 10-ride pass, and the $30.00 monthly pass.
- Starting January 2016, Metro will only sell electronic fare media that are loaded onto a SmarTrip card or a DC One Card.
- In early March 2016, Metro will stop accepting paper fare cards altogether.
If you have questions regarding the changes please contact the District Department of Transportation School Transit Subsidy Program at (202) 673-1740.
