Sunday’s Town Meeting

More than 250 parents, students and faculty members participated in a town meeting Sunday, Feb. 10, to consider the impact of the DCPS plan to merge Francis-Stevens Education Campus with School Without Walls.

On Jan. 17, Chancellor Kaya Henderson announced the merger of the preschool through 8th grade Francis Stevens with School Without Walls. The announcement came as a shock to the Walls community, as we were not involved in discussions.

In table discussions and a post-town meeting online survey, the community was united in opposing any plans to locate some of our students and teachers at the Francis Stevens campus. In addition, concerns were expressed about the growing enrollment and its impact on Walls, and about the lack of transparency and involvement in the decision.

A comprehensive report and the survey are available online.
