Walls biology teacher Sydney Bergman has won a 2014 Rubenstein Award for Highly Effective Teaching, which honors DCPS teachers who excel in the classroom.

The announcement of this year’s Rubinstein Award winners includes a profile of Ms. Bergman that describes the many ways she has contributed to furthering science education both at Walls and within DCPS. The profile also cites the success of her students on the DC-CAS biology exam (100% test at either the proficient or the advanced level) and the AP Biology test (80% pass rate).

Her commitment to science teaching couldn’t be clearer: “I truly believe that doing science empowers students. I love teaching because I get to communicate my love for science and get to see how science has the capacity to change students’ lives,” she says.
Congratulations to Ms. Bergman from the entire Walls community!
