School Without Walls’ senior Kareem Sallay (pitcher, catcher and outfielder) was voted most valuable player (MVP) of the 2012 Maury Will Invitational Baseball Tournament, held April 5–7 at Maury Wills Field, 2500 Georgia Avenue, NW.
In Friday’s game, April 6, against H.D. Woodson, Sallay struck out 12, and allowed no earned runs on one hit and one walk over four innings.
On Saturday, April 7, against Potomac High School (Oxon Hill, MD), Sallay hit two consecutive triples, stole two bases and knocked in five RBIs. Sallay played catcher in Saturday’s game.
Following the April 11th game against Roosevelt High School, O’Leary presented Sallay with a jersey sent by Maury Wills to recognize the tournament MVP.
