Our final SWW Home & School Association (HSA) General Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the school. This is an important meeting, as we will hold our elections for parent representatives on the HSA Executive Board and the Local School Advisory Team (LSAT).
Jeff Ashford, parent of a senior, will serve as Chair of the Nominating Committee for this year’s election of parents to the HSA and LSAT. It is his role to manage the nominations for new officers and parent members of the HSA and LSAT. Several other parents will serve on the committee as well.
Please read the following information on the two organizations and the roles and responsibilities of the parent representatives. If you are interested in serving, please follow the directions below.
Home & School Association (HSA)
The HSA is a 501(c)(3) corporation that supports and expands the educational mission of School Without Walls. The HSA raises funds through member contributions and other activities, prepares an annual budget to spend the funds, and is responsible for key communications activities and other projects. Parents elected to the board attend regular meetings, oversee projects, and engage in activities that connect parents to the school.
Local School Advisory Team (LSAT)
The LSAT is a panel of parents, teachers, non-instructional school staff, and students that advises the principal on matters that promote high expectations and high achievement for all students in our high school. Parents elected to the LSAT are expected to attend meetings (generally the first Wednesday of every month) and to represent the parent community at other meetings where issues of importance to SWWHS are addressed.
For the HSA, the following positions are open to nominations:
- HSA President
- Vice President
- 3 At-Large Board Members
For the LSAT, the following positions are open to nominations:
- LSAT Co-Chair
- 3 LSAT Parent Representatives
All parents interested in being considered for nomination must email Jeff Ashford at email@example.com. Please tell him what role you are interested in and provide a brief statement that addresses the following:
1) Your connection to SWWHS, including the names of your child(ren), SWWHS activities that you have attended, or ways you have supported the school in the past;
2) How you think you can make a difference on the HSA or the LSAT;
3) Information on your background outside of SWWHS, such as skills and experience that would be helpful on the HSA and/or LSAT.
Your information must be emailed by 5 p.m. Friday, May 23.
If you would like to attend an LSAT or HSA board meeting, please do so. (The LSAT meets May 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 127. The HSA Executive Board meets May 15 at 6:30 pm in the library.) We also encourage you to contact either Jean Boland at firstname.lastname@example.org (HSA) or Ed Lazere at email@example.com (LSAT) to learn more about what’s involved in serving.
