Health & Wellness Camp

Posted on: July 18th, 2017 by Leslie Pace

Greetings Penguins and Penguin Parents,

I hope this message reaches you well and you’re enjoying the summer vacation.

With School Without Walls having limited access to athletic fields and spaces, I would like to offer the opportunity to students to get in a little organized physical activity over the month of July with our 1st Health & Wellness Camp. Specifically Mondays and Thursdays, July 11th -28th from 12pm – 4pm.

This is not a recruitment for any team, but a chance for students to get some organized exercise, work with others, learn more about themselves and other students at Walls, along with displaying traits of teamwork, respect, leadership, responsibility, and school spirit. This is also a good time for those that are interested in joining a team to do a little summer conditioning.

Weather permitting, workouts will include using the small gym at SWW Francis-Stevens and the outdoor pool that is next door. Students are asked to bring athletic gear, swimsuits, a towel, and water/water bottles.

Attached is a Health Certificate form that will need to be signed by your child’s physician to make sure that they are cleared for physical activity before they can attend this Health & Wellness Camp. This is NOT the complete form that will clear your student for participation with athletics, this is ONLY to participate in this camp. If you are interested, please rsvp with Mr. Parker at cory.parker@dc.gov<mailto:cory.parker@dc.gov>

Sports Activity Physicals can also be completed by utilizing CVS’ Minute Clinics which costs around $59. The link is below:

Please understand that there is no fee associated with this program, however depending on popularity, we maybe able to gain a discount from a local partner that could provide a snack during that time. If you have any leads or resources that we can use  please feel free to reach out!

Lastly, because we would be utilizing 2 facilities that are not our home base, there will be ZERO TOLERANCE for ANY MISCONDUCT during camp, and your child will not be able to return to camp. Please understand that this is a privilege that they are allowing us to use their facility and we always make sure we leave those spaces in equal or better condition than we found it! Picture identification is needed for pool access.

Thank You for Your Time and Consideration!

We have  also secured 25 tickets for the Washington Nationals on July 27th versus the Milwaukee Brewers at 12:05 pm. First come, first served.  Please contact me at Parker Cory (DCPS) <cory.parker@dc.gov> for ticket request.

Thank you,
