June 1: Walls freshman Eliyah Lister won second place — and a $2,000 college scholarship — in the B’nai B’rith Diverse Minds writing and art contest. Applicants were asked to write and illustrate a children’s book that tells a story of tolerance, diversity or inclusion. Eliyah’s book, Hadia’s Lunch, tells the story of a girl from Turkey who gets picked on in school because the food her mother makes her for lunch is different from regular American food. But with the help of friends, Hadia is able to show the others that being different can be good. Congratulations, Eliyah!
