Junior Achievement has announced the 2014 Junior Achievement Essay Competition. The competition is open to any student in the 9th-12th grade in Greater Washington. Students must write a 1,000 – 1,500 word essay on the following topic: Should young Americans be required to spend at least one year in public service or is such a requirement an unnecessary government intrusion?
Three winners each from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia will receive a $10,000 scholarship. In addition, one grand prize winner selected from among all applicants will receive a $20,000 scholarship. Further, the schools from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia with the greatest number of eligible applications each will receive a $6,000 school grant.
Entries are due Oct. 29, and students may submit their essays online at www.myJA.org/students/essay/
