2011 holidaymessagelGreetings, Walls Family,

As we approach the end of another successful year at Walls, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. The success of School Without Walls is in large part directly related to the parental support and participation that our students enjoy as we strive to enhance their educational experience.

Parents have volunteered in a number of ways, to include: the iContact weekly update; Model UN Program; Debate Team, Booster Club Activities; Annual Picnic; International Night; Grant Writing; Fundraising; and launching new initiatives, such as “Walls In Your Neighborhood,” “Supper Club at Eatonville,” and our “Parent Directory.” Parents also have supported the Home & School Association through generous donations, above and beyond our required giving amounts. We continue to encourage parents who have yet to contribute, to do so right away.

Our collective efforts have provided our teachers and faculty with the resources and support necessary to enhance the classroom teaching experience beyond what is required. It is through this partnership that new and exciting educational travel opportunities are being offered. We have begun a partnership with the World Affairs Council to add even greater opportunities for learning. This effort was led by a parent and is now implemented by one of our teachers currently on the Education Advisory Board of the WAC.

The Home & School Association has worked diligently with Mr. Holt, SWW Athletic Director, to continue to bolster our Sports program and offerings. Parents donated funds to initiate our new Lacrosse team for Boys and Girls. Parents also donated funds to initiate our new SWW Girls Field Hockey team, which is the first in 40 years for DCPS.

The SWW Website continues to be one of the best in the city! The website allows parents to get accurate and up to date information on SWW activities and programs on a timely basis. It is enhanced by our Weekly Update, which provides parents with a snapshot of SWW activities for the week ahead.

As we come to the close of 2011, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for what we have accomplished and remind you that we will continue to expand our capacity. Our goal has always been to be the best school in the Nation and we are on the way there. We want to thank our dedicated teachers and faculty for all of their hard work and dedication to our students. Our teachers go above and beyond what is required and we encourage parents to let them know how much we appreciate them. We also want to thank DCPS for their efforts to support public education in the District of Columbia.

On behalf of the Home & School Executive Board, we want to let you know that we have achieved our goals for 2011 and we wish each of our Walls Families the very best of the Holiday Season and a Health and Prosperous New Year.
